(Photo by Matthew Holst/Getty Images)Saturday’s 63-0 demolition of Illinois aside, Iowa football hasn’t been a dominant offensive club this year. The team does have some playmakers at tight end, though.T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant are among the Hawkeyes’ best offensive weapons, regardless of position. Both were Mackey Award semifinalists (Hockenson is a finalist), and have potential NFL Draft aspirations.Fant has been the center of some serious speculation in recent weeks, as his playing time has trailed off.Ahead of last weekend’s game, head coach Kirk Ferentz called Hockenson the “more versatile” player, when asked about the situation.Noah Fant is viewed as the potential first tight end off the board and first round pick in the NFL Draft. The junior was asked about the possibility that he will leave Iowa after the season. From Hawkeye Nation:“We’ll see what happens,” Fant said. “A lot of people are expecting me to leave and it all kind of depends on what’s given back to me (from the NFL Draft advisory board).”[…]“I’m just going to see what happens. A good start would be getting my grade back from the draft advisory board and going from there.”As a redshirt sophomore, Hockenson is also a possible departure. He also addressed the possibility:“It’s definitely an option,” he said of the NFL. “Obviously I wouldn’t have an answer until the season is done. KF (Kirk Ferentz) and Brian (Ferentz), I still need to talk to them about everything. But I think that’s for the end of the season.”Fant has 38 catches for 507 yards and seven touchdowns on the season, after scoring 11 times as a sophomore. Hockenson has gone for 41/663/6 on the year thus far.[Hawkeye Nation]last_img read more
