Repertory East Playhouse opens season with Bard

first_imgNEWHALL – Repertory East Playhouse will open its 2006 season with the comedy “The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged.)” The work is a fast-paced comedic journey through all 37 of the bard’s plays, performed by just three actors. It was written by the show’s original performers: Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield. “Complete Works” will open Jan. 13 and will be staged at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays until Feb. 18. In order to facilitate covering all of Shakespeare’s plays in one evening, many comedic devices are used. “Othello, The Moor of Venice” is done as a rap song; the histories are performed as a football game, with a crown being the ball in play; and the comedies are lumped together as one play, read and acted out by the three actors. Season tickets for the 2006 season are available. Visit www.repeastplayhouse.org for prices and information about the 2006 season. Those interested in helping with set construction, costumes, ushering or concessions can call Goldberg at (661) 288-0000. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Davies has directed plays such as “Much Ado About Nothing” and “I Sincerely Doubt That This Old House Is Very Haunted” at the neighboring Canyon Theatre Guild. Joining Davies as assistant director is Caroline Morgan; as stage manager, Katie Mitchell; and assistant stage manager will be Kelly Hardy. The play is performed entirely by three actors: Bill Quinn, who was last seen on the REP stage as Mr. Paravicini in “The Mousetrap;” Doug Stuart, who made his R.E.P. debut as Speed in “The Odd Couple;” and Jason Goldberg, REP’s theater manager who last directed “The Mousetrap.” The playhouse is on San Fernando Road and is part of the revitalization of Old Town Newhall. Tickets for “The Complete Works” are $16, or $14 for children under 18 or seniors over 62. last_img read more
