Image: RadioTimes Thousands of passengers at Heathrow Airport may face further delays and cancellations, as freezing temperatures are forecast to continue for the United Kingdom.Heathrow Airport cancelled 260 flights on Sunday, 20 percent of its total schedule, and plan to pull ten percent of Monday’s services due to the icy conditions.Monday’s pre-planned cancellations will reportedly allow more time for remaining aircraft to depart and arrive, an effort aimed at reducing last-minute cancellations, a Heathrow Airport spokesperson said.Heathrow invested £36 million for cold weather equipment in 2010 after snow almost closed the airport.Despite this, de-icing was still taking a considerable amount of time, with the airport enlisting more than 100 volunteers to help with the process, which was taking approximately 30 minutes per plane, The Guardian reported.The Eurostar train service cancelled four trains over the weekend owing to the snow and ice.Sub-zero conditions have seen severe transport disruptions, with the freeze set to continue all week.Stay tuned to e-Travel Blackboard for further news.
